Modern flat screen televisions that
are sold in a wide range of shopping outlets all over the island come
typically in two formats, plasma and LCD. Whilst plasma technology offers
better black levels and contrast than LCD only high-end, expensive models
offer High Definition. LCD televisions whilst offering higher definition
resolutions than plasma also show less glare or light reflection from their
effectively matte screens and in addition use less power than plasma.
Whilst large, slim-line televisions are extremely popular and have been
dropping in price over the past few years our recommendation for any serious
movie ‘buff’ or business that caters for a large audience is projection
based visual systems.
Projectors offer a far larger screen size than a conventional television
set, whilst the most common sizes range from 80” to 100” Phuket Home Cinema
can supply and install systems that project up to 300”. Typically there are
three types of technology to choose from when buying a projector, LCD, DLP
and LCOS.
At Phuket Home Cinema we recommend the use of either DLP or LCOS as
there is little or no visible pixel structure, smoother pictures with a
higher contrast and deeper blacks. LCOS is a relatively new technology and
is thus the most expensive it offers the smoothest of pictures with no
visible pixel formation. We recommend the use of LCOS in installations over
100”. The vast majority of our installations incorporate the use of DLP
technology as it offers an exceptionally high quality picture and is the
most cost effective.
